Fallphaze Venue Confirmed!

By now, you may or may not have heard a rumor about our Fallphaze location circulating around our community. We are SUPER excited to announce that it’s true! This Fallphaze (October 8-10) will be taking place at MILLER CASTLE!

Our event will see the Interphaze heroes finally return to civilization after a year of trekking through abandoned wilderness and arrive at the doors of EBONCLOAK MANOR. It’s time to settle this business about restricted magic. What better place to do that than at our favorite castle?

So mark your calendars for October 8-10 now to make sure you can arrange your vacation time and travel plans to join us for this return-to-in-person event!

Fallphaze! – Save the Date

To quote one of our OG signs that used to be paraded around the Minnesota Renaissance Festival: “The Grand INTERPHAZE Approaches!” And we couldn’t be more excited!

So save this date for a return to IN-PERSON Phaze this October!

Friday, October 8 – Sunday, October 10

more details to follow

We are putting our entire energy and focus into this event, forgoing any virtual events this summer to focus all our creative efforts on making the most out of our return to in-person events!

We’ll be releasing more details throughout the summer as things firm up, including venue, safety protocols, menu, and more. So stay tuned!

We can hardly wait to see you all again!

The trek back to civilization continues…

The world is a drastically different place than it was when our heroes entered the land of the Fae. Now, the Red Knight’s destruction has lain waste to the Western coast. Monstrous overlords and bandit warbands sweep the countryside. The waters of the realm are overrun with undead pirates and horrors of the deep.

Through it all, our returning heroes struggle to find a path back to some outpost of civilization. Join us for Virtualphaze 3, the third (and hopefully last?) part of our virtual return to the civilized kingdom.

This Virtualphaze event comes with full access to your character passport, including associated item cards, spell cards, and virtualized money to trade and spend!

There will also be opportunity for “Town” play in the days leading up to the event, though these will be free-play experiences without judges available for combat resolution.

Get ready for… VIRTUALPHAZE 2!

Mark your calendars for Saturday, October 10. It’s time for Virtualphaze 2! There was a great turnout to our first Virtualphaze event, and even better feedback about being able to find a way to play an Interphaze event in the midst of our current social circumstances.

So, we’ve been working since the first one on how to improve on it for an even better virtual Interphaze experience. This version will have more chance for player interaction, better tech interfacing, and more TOWN!

What’s New for 2?

Notable differences between the first Virtualphaze and this one:

  • We will host our voice interface on a new technical platform to reduce bandwidth needs and improve interactive performance
  • You’ll have FULL access to your passport and item cards, as well as your money!
  • In the days leading up to the event, play-by-post “town” sites will be open, including shops, a tavern, and other chances for intrigue. There will also be live chat rooms available for free-form role play and interaction.

So…

Save the date!

Saturday, october 10, 2020

Registration details will be out early next week. The registration deadline will be shorter than usual as mid-September is already on us. So mark your calendars now and register promptly once the event is live!

See you in October!

Are you ready for Virtualphaze?

One of the cool things about running a virtual event is: we have access to monster and NPC types not usually availabe to us (because we can’t build costumes or puppets that are cool enough). So, we’re packing this event with some of these creature types that are never (or almost never) seen on our live event trails!

While we’re busy at work prepping the encounter notes, and getting our judges ready to run an event on the Roll20 platform, we have a question for you. Are YOU ready to play?

Here’s a readiness checklist for the event:

  • Register at interphaze.org/registration (or by clicking below)
  • Submit your character updates as normal for an Interphaze event
  • While logged in to your Interphaze account, click on “My User Page” and make sure you can see your documents folder (it will have a name similar to “Your Name Shared”
  • If you don’t see the folder, send us a quick email letting us know. This folder will (eventually) contain your passport and spell updates (if applicable) for this event.
  • Sign up for a Roll20.net account at their website
  • Go through the Roll20.net tutorial to learn the basics of using their software (HIGHLY recommended)

The registration window ends on MAY 17, so make sure to get yourself registered ASAP!

Thanks! I, and all the team putting this together, are looking forward to being able to play together using technology to beat the COVID-19 puzzle.

Join us for the First EVER Virtual Interphaze!

We have been hard at work trying to figure out a way to bring us all together again for an Interphaze experience in the midst of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.  So it is with a TON of excitement that I can announce the fruits of our gnomes’ behind-the-scenes efforts: The first EVER Virtual Interphaze event… Virtualphaze!

Please join us on SUNDAY, MAY 31st at 1 PM for an online Interphaze event that will be canon and story-relevant.  The event will take place on the Roll20 platform, which can be found at roll20.net.

(Registration links below)

Before the day of our event, we HIGHLY recommend you sign up for a Roll20 account (in advance).  Then, take some time to familiarize yourself with the platform, including going through their tutorial.

Even more good news: because we know that you and your family may be affected by a slowed economy, this event is also our first ever Pay What You Can event.  When you go to register, you’ll see many options for payment, from $25 all the way down to $0.

Payment is NOT required to enjoy this event and join us to play and have some fun at this event.  We’re simply asking you to pay whatever is reasonable for your current budget to handle.

This event will be worth 1 level for characters.  In order to manage game room loads, we are assigning parties ahead of this event.  During registration, you’ll see a new field to request people you’d like to play with.  Party sizes will be capped at 8 people.  If you don’t indicate specific people you’d like to play with, you’ll be organized into a random party of adventurers for this event.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to send an email to ben.m@interphaze.org.  I anticipate there may be some as we all navigate this together.

We’re so excited to be able to provide this opportunity to come together and enjoy each others’ company again, if only online.

We’ll have more details and information as we get closer, including sending out answers to any frequently asked questions.

Thanks, and I hope to see you on the 31st of May! Register below or visit the registration page at www.interphaze.org/registration for more event details.

Season Update (Winterphaze Canceled and more)

Governor Walz today closed K-12 schools across the state in response to the growing outbreak of COVID-19 (Coronavirus). The number of confirmed cases has begun to rise exponentially, matching trends throughout the country and the world. Additionally, the first case of community transmission has now been confirmed in Minnesota.

In addition, we have been talking with people from the medical community who confirm the pandemic is likely to increase for the foreseeable future. Also, the number of unconfirmed cases is likely much higher than those confirmed by many times.

In light of all this, we have made the decision to cancel our Winterphaze event. We are also canceling our planned Miniphaze event that would have happened sometime in May.

Our first event for our season will be our Summerphaze weekend-long event. This event has not been scheduled yet, but we’re targeting late June or Early to Mid-July. We’ll keep you updated as we know more.

Everyone who was registered for Winterphaze will have their registration fee credited to their membership account and applied to future events. If you’d prefer to receive a refund instead, please email me directly at ben.m@interphaze.org and I can make arrangements for that as well.

On a personal note, I’m sure you’re disappointed as everyone on our teams is about not being able to save the kingdom this weekend. I want to take a minute to thank our teams, especially our weighting team, who has been hard at work preparing for this event. More importantly, I’ll miss seeing and reconnecting with all of you and look forward to seeing you at Summerphaze.

Thanks for your support and understanding,

Ben Millard

COVID-19 and Winterphaze

With Winterphaze coming up in one week, I’m sure many of you are wondering about how COVID-19 (Coronavirus) affects our plans. In fact, I’ve already received questions about canceling Winterphaze.

I’ve been following the medical and scientific community closely this last week as details about COVID-19, including where it is currently most prevalent, what its symptoms are, and how to take precautions against it.

Based on all available data, it does not appear that COVID-19 has a large presence in Minnesota. The data also makes clear that the highest risk for complications occurs in the elderly and in people whose immune systems are already compromised, or who have underlying health conditions that impact their ability to fight off a virus.

Our Plan

First off, Winterphaze is still on. We are still planning a full schedule of activities for all of you who are participating in the event.

When I and members of our logistics team arrive on site at Miller Castle, we will be doing a sanitizing sweep of the venue, focused on areas that come in contact with hands (sinks, door handles, etc.)

We will also have sanitizing wipes on hand for your use to wipe down your bunk mats and surrounding bunk areas, and for use throughout the weekend.

When we leave the castle, we’ll all pitch in do sanitize these areas again to help keep things clean for the next group to use the castle.

If you develop symptoms during our event, you’ll be asked to leave.

To be clear, the main symptoms of COVID-19 are: fever, dry coughing, fatigue, and shortness of breath. These are the symptoms we’ll be on the lookout for. Other symptoms, such as sneezing, runny/stuffy nose, sore throat, muscle aches, and nausea have not been associated with COVID-19 by the medical community.

Should you consider skipping this event?

If you are sick… stay home!

If you’re not sick, the attendance decision is up to you, and can only be made on an individual basis. Here are some things to consider when making your decision:

  • Do you have accurate information beyond the latest media report? Specifically, do you have data from health officials that give you tangible information to base your decision on?
  • Is your immune system compromised?
  • Do you have underlying health conditions that affect your ability to fight off illness and viruses?
  • Do you live, work, or regularly come into close contact with the elderly or people with compromised immune systems / underlying health conditions?

You may have other factors that contribute to your decision-making process. If you’d like to talk more about your attendance at Winterphaze, I’d be happy to talk it over with you via phone call or email conversation. You can find my contact information at the end of this article.

What happens if I decide to stay home?

Our normal cancellation policy is in effect. This means that if you cancel at least 3 days in advance of the event, you can receive a refund for your registration fee or transfer your registration fee to a future event.

If you cancel less than 3 days in advance, refunds are no longer possible though you can still transfer your registration to a future event.

For this event, we are adding the following addition to our policy: if you arrive at the event and then choose to leave due to illness or concern about illness, your registration fee will be transferred to a future event.

What if I didn’t want to read that long post?

In short:

  • Winterphaze is still a GO.
  • Symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, dry cough, fatigue, and shortness of breath.
  • If you are sick, please stay home
  • COVID-19 most severely affects the elderly, and people with underlying medical conditions and/or compromised immune systems that hamper their ability to fight off infection
  • We are doing extra cleaning before, during, and after the event
  • People who develop COVID-19 symptoms will be asked to leave the event
  • If you decide not to come, or to leave early, your registration fee can be transferred to a future event
  • If you cancel attendance at least 3 days in advance, you can recieve a refund in place of a registration transfer

As always, if you have any questions, you can email me at ben.m@interphaze.org. Also, feel free to give me a call at 651-500-9106 if you’d like to discuss any questions or concerns about the upcoming event.

I hope to see you all out there.

Ben Millard
